MR VOCALIST

Singer, Composer, Lyricist and extremely awesome Sarangi player, all these in one man – Abid Ali! He is the heart of Kafila and his heart beats for music. Abid is leading the ninth generation of his musical legacy. He was born on 5th May 1984 in a family where music was not just an art form but it was a ‘Parampara’. His grandfather Late Ustad Abdul Kareem Khan Sahib, who was a renowned Sarangi player and vocalist, was his first guru. After receiving the primary education of Indian Classical from him Abid started the training from his father Ustad Shoukat Ali Khan and Uncle Ustad Liyakat Ali Khan. Both are prominent Sarangi Players and Indian classical vocalists. He has not stopped there, instead opened his wings and went ahead. Abid did five years diploma in vocal music from Lucknow University and three years diploma from Rajasthan Sangeet Sansthan. This sky of learning was not enough for him and presently he is finishing his musical skills under the kind guidance of Dr. Lilawati Adsule, head of music department in University of Rajasthan. Abid was a winner of state level light music competition organized by Sangam Kala Group in the memory of Master Madan Mohan. He received first prize in this competition for consecutively four years from 2001 to 2005. He received Sur Sudha Award from P.L. Vishnu Narayan Bhatkande Sansthan, Bikaner in 2006 and Young Talent award from West Zone Cultural Center Govt. of India in 2007. This energetic and versatile music maestro is an approved artist from All India Radio, Jaipur. With his heart touching voice and enchanting ragas that he plays on sarangi, Abid can easily take you out of this world. Music is the soul for his senses. He feels great pleasure in devoting his prayers to goddess Saraswati. He has an infinite list of performances in his pool of experience. It is very difficult to put all together. He traveled extensively around the country and across the globe leaving a story of a magnificent and highly successful show every time. Paris (France), Barcelona (Spain), Geneva (Switzerland), Kathmandu (Nepal) is just few from the bunch. Abid’s fantasy is to take the rajasthani folk to the highest level of popularity. He considers Kafila as a milestone in achieving his mission. With singing and playing, Abid experiments in other forms of art i.e. writing and composition. He with other band members has created beautiful and tuneful musical pieces of fusion. Since he started he had only one aim – to give a shape to his fantasy and he did it with Kafila. Abid’s musical Kafila goes right with these beautiful lines “Akela he chala tha janebe mazil, log milte gaye Kafila banta gaya”.
